Younger Workers Want Saving Alternatives

Published / Last Updated on 12/02/2008

Younger workers want saving alternatives to pensions according to a survey.

A study has shown that more than a third of workers would prefer their firms to offer an alternative to automatic pension contributions.

Non-pension savings or cash over traditional arrangements were some alternatives suggested.

Our view

When it comes to saving for retirement, organisations need to give their employees what they want.  This includes pensions but we suggest it will be quite difficult to offer a US menu style system for alternative investment plans as all other plans with the exception of share options schemes are taxed benefits in kind.
