Would You Lie For A Better Deal?

Published / Last Updated on 02/07/2004

A recent survey has claimed that more than 90% of employees would lie during an employment tribunal if there were a chance of getting more compensation out of their employers. 90% also commented that the amount of compensation available would be the factor attracting them to claim.

Of the almost 95% of employees that had a major dispute with their boss, only a third felt it was satisfactorily resolved.

Our View

The survey results are not a shock to us, although we thought the number would be nearer 100%.  What employees do not appreciate is how hard it is to run a business.  Disputes will come along but most employers would want you to raise the issues with them.  If you do and are still not happy, put yourself in your employer's shoes.  If you still believe you have not been treated fairly, vote with your feet!

This is all well and good but depending on the circumstances and until it happens, no one knows how they would react in terms of taking further action or revenge.  As the years pass by, people seem to have less respect for the laws in the UK.  More and more people are admitting that they would not tell the truth and this is worrying, albeit honest!  In 1995, only 34% of people surveyed said they would consider lying.  We certainly have come a long way with the compensation culture ever increasing.  Maybe the tribunal system and Court systems in general could take something away from this survey.
