Working Past Retirement On The Up

Published / Last Updated on 16/03/2007

In a recent report by Office of National Statistics, it has been revealed that the number of people working past retirement age has increased by 7.8per cent on last year’s figures.

This change is obviously due to people not saving enough for their retirement and he fully expects the figure to continue to rise. The average age that people are aiming to retire is 63.

Our view

It is feared that many people are still not saving enough to enable them to achieve this and the need to work past retirement is likely to increase if people do not improve their savings habit. The Government want us to work on anyway and moving the state pension age for many up to between 66 and 68 is the first step towards this.
