Unemployment Down to 2.56m.
A report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has shown that the amount of people unemployed in the UK has fallen by 46,000 in the second quarter of this year. This means unemployment is down to 2.56 million in the UK and the percentage rate fell to 8.0%.
The ONS has also reported that the amount of people who are claiming Jobseekers Allowance fell to 1.59 million in July with a reduction of 5,900. Part-time jobs are the main reason for this as companies cannot afford to take permanent staff on in the current climate.
However some people are claiming that the figures are distorted as the so called 'Olympic effect' kicked in as millions of tourists and athletes flocked to London, companies had to take on staff to keep open and keep up with demand. Now the Olympics are over the unemployment figures will be watched very carefully.
