Mr Piggott, a lawyer at a London based family law firm has warned divorce lawyers to seek advice from independent financial advisers or risk being sued for bad financial advice.
The lawyer's statement came amidst the rising number of divorces and the number of couples trying to get a share of their ex-spouses pensions.
According to the Office of National Statistics, divorces are now at a 7-year high. There were 160,000 divorces in 2002 and the numbers are increasing. Mr Piggott said, "any professional needs to know their limitations. They have to say I am good at this and I am not very good at this but I know someone who is. You have to go to a specialist".
