Revenue Investigates Wimbledon Rent A Room Residents

Published / Last Updated on 26/06/2005

The Inland Revenue are to tighten up on Wimbledon residents who avoid tax on rental income they receive from letting their homes to tennis stars and spectators.  This year, those renting out rooms and apartments during the Wimbledon tournament must declare the extra income to the Inland Revenue.  If they do not, it could result in a fine and a demand for the back tax.

The residents are said to be 'outraged', saying that the Government should allow them the chance to offset their mortgage repayments during the time that they are required to pay extra tax!
