The European Singles and Lifestyle study has found that one third of single people in Britain, between the ages of 25 and 50; have moved back in with their parents.
The report found that 4 out of 10 of the 15 million single people in this country are unable to afford to buy or rent a property due to rising prices, and 29% have had to move back home. Twenty five per cent of men live with their parents, compared to 15% of women.
The report has also found that due to financial pressures, 3% of single people are forced to live under the same roof as their ex-partner. Research from Alliance & Leicester has found that first time buyers are now, on average 34 years old before they buy their own property.
Our view
Property is more expensive, more people are divorcing and more people are choosing to live alone. It is for these reasons that more and more are staying with parents for longer.
