London has fallen from its perch as number one of the twice yearly ranking of the global financial centres to tie for the first place with New York.
The seventh global financial centres (GFC) report said that although the scores given by those surveyed to the main offshore financial centres “have generally risen” since the last survey, they did not do so “by as much as those of many other centres, while their rankings have , with the exception of the isle of man , declined”
The survey included 75 financial centres with the bottom three being Athens, Istanbul and Reykjavik. Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo were in the third, fourth and fifth place. The rest of the tops ten in descending order were Chicago, Zurich, Geneva and Shezhen and Sydney tied in ninth place.
London’s slide reflects the concerns of those it interviewed relating to the quality of London’s business environment and it’s access to skilled people and infrastructure.
