Labour Small Business Rates Cut Spin.

Ed Milliband, Labour Party leader, speaking at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton yesterday, has suggested that they will cut planned increases in business rates for small businesses.

To fund this, they suggest that will reverse the proposed cut to larger companies corporation tax already planned at 25% for 2015, as introduced by the coalition.

Spin.

For  number of years now, many small businesses have had virtually nil business rates to pay.  A huge discount introduced by the coalition.

Putting business rates into perspective:

A business pay rates to the local authority (much in the same way as householders pay council tax).

A business gets absolutely nothing for the payment.  Business rates are comparable to council tax rates but a business do not get anything for free.

  • Refuse collection must be paid for additionally.
  • Recycling is paid for additionally.
  • A business cannot use the local tip, unless paid for.
  • A business is charged if the police, fire or other emergency services are called.

The coalition reduced these business rates for small businesses so that many are now paying no more than £5 or £10pm.

We do not understand what Labour is offering.  Let’s pretend to introduce a rate cuts for small business and again put higher taxes in for larger companies.  This means that larger business will be less inclined to base themselves in the UK.

For most clients we talk too, they are all fed up with all parties.  For a change, politicians should give the real facts and do what they were elected to do, not offer spin and counter spin in an attempt to hoodwink the public.
