HMRC Underpaid Crackdown

HMRC Underpaid Crackdown.

The latest firms who have broke the rules on paying employees too little has been released by HMRC. Under new rules that came into effect in October allowed HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to name and shame offenders who did not pay their staff the national minimum wage.

A total of £43,000 is owed to staff by the offenders and fines amounting to more than £21,000.

Not only is it immoral to pay staff less than minimum wage, it is also against the law and HMRC are showing an example of what happens if you do not abide by them.

Currently the UK minimum wage is £6.31 per hour for adults and it will increase in October to £6.50.

HMRC were alerted to certain firms after staff called the free helpline to report underpayment. This included a school in Edinburgh which underpaid one member of staff £3,739 and Central Heating Services Ltd in Hampshire which failed to pay four members of staff £6,200.
