French Raise Inheritance Tax Threshold

Published / Last Updated on 03/10/2007

The French government has recently raised its inheritance tax threshold by 300 per cent.  The threshold is increasing from 50,000€ to 150,000€ per parent, per child.  As well as obviously benefiting the French, it will also be of interest to foreign homeowners in France.

Any French asset that you own will be dealt with under French regulations no matter where in the world you should die.

Our view

The change is welcomed as many properties owned by both French and UK citizens alike in France will start to escape the trap and may now be free from inheritance tax.
