Age Discrimination Continues

Published / Last Updated on 03/10/2007

Despite the introduction of the Age Discrimination Act, nine months ago there has still been a high number of age related discriminations being reported.  Advice, guidance and examples of best practice have been available from The Chartered Institute of Personnel, the Development, Arbitration and Conciliations Service, the Employers forum on Age and other government bodies.

Law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner surveyed more than 50 businesses across a range of sectors.  They discovered that more than one in ten had received a claim on the grounds of age discrimination.  Other areas where discrimination takes place are disability, religion, ethnicity and parental status.

Our view

These must have been larger rather than smaller employers.  Although, it is still worrying that employers are still trying to ignore the law.
