Flat Rate Bank Charges At HBOS

Halifax Bank of Scotland Group has announced that with effect from 9 February 2009, a new style of bank charges for defaulters will commence.

In simple terms, a flat rate set of daily charges will be levied of £1, £2 and £5 per day for various breaches.

The move is seen as greater effort by the banks to have a clearer charging structure when people go overdrawn etc.  This may not be cheaper overall for many clients but it will be easier to understand.

The Financial Services Authority has an initiative called ‘Treating Customers Fairly and we see this as a move towards achieving that goal by having a standard set of fees.
