Finance CD In Schools

Published / Last Updated on 03/04/2006

The Personal Finance Education Group has launched a five-year initiative to help secondary school teachers develop personal finance education for their students.  This initiative will support secondary school teachers in England, while the group continues to pilot projects across the UK in both primary and secondary schools, using telephone and internet support, and short training courses for teachers.   A new CD-ROM has been designed to help students.  Topics that are covered include, how to get a mortgage, and saving for a pension.

The course is aimed at 13-16 year olds, and there are 25 hours of learning activities.

Our view

This is fantastic news.   We have campaigned for over five years for finance education in schools.  At least now many school leavers may actually know how to write a cheque rather that a brief and distant knowledge of Pythagorus or Newtons Law, which only perhaps 1% or 2% of us will use in life!
