The eco-towns that Mr Gordon Brown would like to see built could take 10 years to come to fruition, according to housing experts. Mr Brown plans to build 200,000 new homes every year until 2013, 100,000 of these homes will be in one of five carbon-neutral settlements.
They will have their own green power stations, enhanced transport links and zero-carbon schools. Mr Brown has stated that these zero-carbon homes will be exempt from stamp duty and all of the gas and electricity that they use will be generated locally and from sustainable sources.
Our view
These homes are great for the future but we believe, it really is in the future, possibly 10 years in the planning before the first keys are handed over.
