DTI 'Bins' GBP200 000

Published / Last Updated on 24/10/2004

The Department of Trade and Industry has had to spend £200,000 of taxpayers money to reprint a business leaflet that turned out to be misleading.

The leaflet concerned grievance procedures in the workplace and had been introduced following new legislation that came into force in October.

The shadow secretary of state for industry, Stephen O'Brien has called for Patricia Hewitt, the secretary of state for industry to publicly apologise to every taxpayer and business in Britain.

Our View

This news is unbelievable and should never have been allowed to happen.  Government department spending is spiralling out of control and nothing is being done about it.

Investigations into savings have been made to the tune of £750 million.  The only problem is that 80% of DTI head office staff would get the boot.  Now that would not look good on the Government unemployment figures, would it?

Can we have shares in the printing company?
