Darling Bankers Bonus Warning

Darling Bankers Bonus Warning

Alastair Darling has issued a stark warning to bankers amid rumours of a return to a big bonus culture.

On the BBC website and in the Independent, it is claimed that Mr Darling said that it would be “disastrous” if bankers went back to their old ways and that they needed “to be brought back to earth”.

The Chancellor suggested that whilst he would not introduce new laws to prevent excessive bonuses, he may lean heavily on the regulator, the Financial Services Authority, to ensure that bonuses to bankers are not linked to excessive risk taking.

We are not sure how this can be achieved as people want to be paid well for success; if they may money for the bank they will want paying for it.
