The Conservative party have said that the cost of restructuring local authorities could lead to an increase in the council tax bill by around £345 per household. However, the Government have also released figures for the restructuring, and they have said that it would be around £121 per person. The one thing that both parties agree on is that costs would continue to rise.
A spokeswoman for the labour party has said that claims that the restructuring would lead to increases in the council tax are wrong. All councils have been made aware that any changes will need to be self-financing.
Our view
This Government has wasted more money on central and local government, with more ‘staff’ on the payroll ‘gravy train’ than ever before. Whether it is £121 or £345 – it is still frivolous waste.
