Costs of Care

Published / Last Updated on 08/03/2002

A report recently released by the Health Service Ombudsman has questioned the amount of money some people paid for the cost of their own long-term care.  The report said that many people who needed to go into care paid too much from their own pocket when the State should have paid.  The Ombudsman has possibly now enabled people to claim compensation for their overpayments.  However, the rules regarding who pays for what when it comes to care are so complicated, many local authorities do not understand them.  This is possibly where it all started and local authorities used their own interpretation of the rules.  No one can know in advance whether they will need care and what services will be required.  There are many plans you can take out to fund for possible care needs but it is important to take advice because they vary in terms of cover and cost.  We have a whole website dedicated to long term care.  Visit Care Fees Adviser.com.For a free fact sheet on long term care visit the registered user downloads page in the client centre.
