Cost of Living Longer
Leading industry figures are involved in a not-for-profit organisation called the Life Trust Foundation to raise awareness of the financial consequences of increased longevity.
The board includes Tory peer Lord Hunt as chairman, Aifa deputy director Fay Goddard and the former FSA divisional director Anna Bradley. The foundation will promote research and innovation in the way that financial services responds to longevity. Help the Aged director general Mike Lake will be a director.
Our view
Increased longevity is a real problem for the country’s finances. As we live longer our burden for state pensions increases, our burden on the NHS increases and our need for old age care increases. There will be much change over the next few years with regard to funding and taxes.
We welcome foundation’s formation and hope that it really does raise awareness for people needing to plan.
