Bulgaria has been tipped as the ˜rising star" of Europe, with an increasing number of Britons investing in ski chalets, to use as a buy-to-let investment, which cost on average around £20,000.
While Western European resorts are reporting thin snow, the ski slopes in Bulgaria remain covered with at least 2 metres of snow throughout the season, which is encouraging holiday makers there, instead of traditional locations. The country is due to join the European Union in 2007, and the property market will open to everyone in Europe, with budget airlines that will increase both demand and prices. The most popular ski resort is Banksco, located at the foot of the Pirin mountains, and less than two hours drive from the capital, Sophia.
Our view
For the skiing population this may be a good bet. We suggest though that language, culture and laws may prove property here at little more risk than most. Make sure you get a trusted agent to look after your interests. You will not miss the boat by leaving it for six months and doing your research first. Do not rush.
