The Conservatives have called for a shake-up of the Bank of England monetary policy committee, so that external positions are advertised publicly.
They have said that there is too much secrecy surrounding the appointment, and an open application process would allow the biggest selection of candidates. It has been suggested that there should be an independent panel to consider applications, chaired by the Treasury.
Our view
Most employers in the UK are required to adhere to rules regarding internal and external vacancy notification, why not the Bank of England? The Tories comments are true but is this just trying to score points?
