Affordable Housing Programme.
The Affordable Homes Programme has exceeded expectations to deliver 150,000 new homes by 2015, with 146 providers sharing nearly £1.8 billion to build 80,000 homes under the programme, which puts the Government on track to deliver up to 170,000 new homes by 2015, and safeguarding around 80,000 jobs in construction and related trades.
The programme will allow social housing providers to charge rent of up to 80% of the local market level and utilise the extra income to support delivery of more affordable homes. According to Andrew Stunnell, Communities Minister, the new homes will be built in cities, towns and rural areas across the country, and include many homes for families.
