60% Of Us May Work After 65

Published / Last Updated on 25/09/2005

Six in every ten people in the UK are prepared to work beyond the age of 65 in order to supplement their pensions.  The research from Axa has also found that around 7% are expecting to work until they are 70 years old, and a further 7% are not expecting to stop work at all.

Forty two per cent of people do not think that they have made sufficient contributions to provide a comfortable retirement, with 8% saying that they have not made any pension provision at all.  The survey also showed that people in the UK do not expect to be able to rely on the state pension, with 41% expecting it to be worthless by the time they retire.

Axa found men are most likely to consider working beyond current retirement age, with around two thirds saying they would be willing to supplement their pension by working.
