Research by Prudential called the Retirement Index has found that 3.5m of the UK pensioners face hardship and are actually cutting back on what they spend.
Their research also said that nearly 2.8m are or were already considering returning to work to 'make ends meet'.
Our view
Again, these figures seem rather high. Headline grabbing is the name of the game. There will obviously be many pensioners who are suffering financially. However, there are also many pensioners who are living in huge value assets that they choose not to utilise.
Retirement is always difficult and it is always those who do not prepare adequately who suffer for it later.
