Women make up over half of the workforce, yet most of the top jobs in the UK, are held by men. There still seems to be a glass ceiling where women's careers are concerned. Research by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has shown that women are penalised for being seen as a homemaker and child carer, including 20% facing dismissal as a result of pregnancy, and having to give up jobs because of their caring roles. Employers have come under fire in the report over their failure to offer flexible working practices and to recognise the responsibilities that women have outside the workplace. They are calling on the government and other political parties to develop a 'National Family Strategy' to replace the current system of childcare and family support.
Our view:
Sad facts that do need to be addressed. Yes, we can say this, one of 's founders is a lady. There is no qualitative work difference between men and women.
