UK is Still Shopping

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has said that retail sales in the UK rose by 1.8% last month compared with July 2008.

They claim that the majority of retail sales came through new furniture and home improvements as Britons sit tight, stay at home and make home life slightly better.

We suggest that much of the furniture sales improvement may have come from a combination of heavy discounting from retail outlets to shift stock in addition to the poor weather encouraging us into shops rather than on the beach.
