UK Inflation Rises To 4.5 Per Cent
The Consumer Prices Index rate of annual inflation now stands at 4.5% and data from the Office of National Statistics has revealed that alcohol, tobacco, gas and air transport were the main reason behind the increase in inflation. The Retail Prices Index in April stands at 5.2%.
According to Mervyn King, Bank of England Governor, inflation would likely be below the Government’s 2% inflation target if it was not for increases in energy prices, import prices and VAT.
