State Pension Increase Delayed.
According to a report by the BBC, the government will delay plans to increase the state pension age to 66 by 6 months. Under the original proposals the pension age was due to rise from 60 to 65 by 2018, then increasing to 66 for both men and women by April 2020, it will now rise to 66 in October 2020.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber believes this change means the government has finally accepted that it got the increase in the state pension age for women wrong, but hundreds of thousands of women will still lose out as putting up the state pension age won’t create any extra jobs for older workers, and the worst hit will be those women who cannot work or claim a pension, and will have to rely on the benefits system.
