Another snippet that came from Gordon Brown in his pre-budget speech was the fact that the stamp duty regime was to be overhauled.
According to Mr Brown, the current system would be replaced next year with a system that will make sure stamp duty is applied fairly to similar transactions. No details of the new regime have been released but the speculation is already concerning the industry, especially as house prices continue to climb and the amount of resulting stamp duty increases the Government's coffers.
