Softly Softly Join Your Pension

The Government has said that it wants to do more to encourage 'soft' compulsion, as well as helping women to contribute towards their pension.  The Work and Pensions secretary, David Blunkett, has announced plans to examine the inequalities in the current pension system, and make it more relevant to women.

He also announced that the department has published guidelines to help employers who want to put in place an opt-out clause on stakeholder or group pensions.  The rules would enable employers to automatically enrol employees into their scheme without having to make a separate application for membership.

Same message, different person.  Full compulsion will come.  Education of the public on the need to save is the only answer.
