Small Businesses Closing Due To Crime

Published / Last Updated on 17/03/2005

According to a report commissioned by Axa Insurance, around 2000 small businesses have closed down because of crime, within the last five years.

In the survey carried out by Continental Research, 34,000 small businesses were a victim of crime and had to close for a time.  Over 16,000 concerns decided to move premises because of criminal activity, while 30,000 claimed that over the past five years, their staff have been injured or traumatised as a result of crime.

The report also showed that nearly half a million companies in this time period, claimed to have sustained costs for improving security and repairing damage.

Our view

This is a sad indictment of our country!   More "Bobbies on the beat" please.   Businesses pay enough in tax and recieve virtually nothing for it, more spending where it is needed.
