Six Million People Due Tax Refunds.
HM Revenue & Customs will be writing to around 6 million people to let them know they are due a tax refund, averaging £400. They will also be writing to another million people advising them they have underpaid their tax by about £600.
This is the second year the tax and National Insurance errors have been identified by a new computer system.
Anyone who owes tax, will be able to spread it out over time by having their tax code adjusted and any rebates, which relate to overpayments in 2007-08 or earlier are due to be settled by December 2012.
