The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released figures that show retail sales in April grew 6.9% compared with the same point last year.
Retail sales also improved more that experts were expecting between March and April rising 1.3% against the 0.5% that was predicted. Food was thought to be the main contributor here with many people stocking up for the Easter period.

Non-food sales rose 6.5% compared with the same point last year but actually dropped over the month from March by 0.5%.
This news comes as growing demand from online shoppers has led to Royal Mail announcing a new pilot scheme that will allow the biggest parcel collection depots in the UK to open up on a Sunday and allow collection of parcels.
