Purnell Pension Job After Hain Resignation

Purnell lands pension job after Hain resignation.

Following the resignation of Peter Hain, James Purnell is being welcomed back as secretary of state for work and pensions.

He has commented “I am delighted to be returning to the Department of Work and Pensions, my aspirations are to ensure everyone has the chance to be self-reliant in old age and to make work the right and responsibility of everyone who is capable of it”.

Our view

Secretary of State for Pensions is a real hot seat job at present.  There is much going on with State Pension changes as well as a new set of private pensions in the form of personal accounts.  For Mr Purnell our message is simple, expect a torrid time.
