Pension Funds Surplus

by  Ashley Clark, Director

According to the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), final-salary pension funds are back in surplus.

The PPF published figures after reviewing all final salary schemes to find that a £20bn deficit back in September had converted to a £13.5bn surplus in October.

We suggest this is short-lived ad backed buy significant growth in Global stock markets since their recent low in March in March 2009, when FTSE was around the 3,200 mark.

We the UK stock market to enter another tricky period over the next year or so, and with problems in Europe Ireland, Spain and Portugal, we see Euro markets also suffering.

Expect pension defecits to return in 2011.
