A survey conducted by Alliance and Leicester has showed that the number of parents living and renting from parents is growing. This is because they simply cannot afford their own home. The trend for rented accommodation is expected to grow due to the breakdown of nuclear families.
Britons are more likely to believe that it is a must to own their own home. Renting remains popular in America, Australia and France.
Our view
The demand for smaller, low cost housing is still increasing. This will fuel the property market for the next twenty years or so.
