Offshore Back To Onshore?

Published / Last Updated on 26/11/2003

The Investment Managers Association has predicted that there will be a swing back at investment companies to developing products onshore in the UK and away from offshore.

This is in response to the Financial Services Authority's (FSA) consultation paper on collective investments (all those pension, unit trusts, insurance bonds etc that you save in are collective investments).

The consultation paper is about trying to simplify the rules on setting up investment products because the UK is rather complex.

Our view

Whether onshore or offshore structures are simpler or not to establish is immaterial to us as advisers or you as an investor.  What matters are the charges, the tax breaks (if any) and the quality of the fund manager looking after your money.

Simplfying the UK side may reduce charges but will it offer better tax breaks?  We think not.
