Three years ago, in 2000, many people received letters concerning their endowments and the state of the performance of the fund and their likely returns at maturity.  These projections were based upon an assumed investment return of 6% per year until the maturity of the endowment.

These letters were either red, amber or green. Green meaning that the endowment was likely to achieve its target given investment returns.  Amber meaning that things were tight and it may or may not repay the mortgage amount.  Red meaning there was likely to be a definite shortfall.

So why raise the concern again? In simple terms, the stock market fell by over 50% between 2001 to 2003 and has only just started to nervously recover. Those of you who had red letters - they are probably a darker red!

Those of you who received green or amber letters - have they now changed to red?

Don't leave it to chance!
