Mortgage Fraud 2010 Falls

In the latter part of 2010, mortgage fraud dropped from £96m in 2009 to £12.4m, according to data from the KPMG.  However, there was nearly a 20 per cent increase on fraud cases overall in 2010 and they have suggested that the larger, more organised mortgage fraud is being dealt with by financial institutions.

The government dealt with 42 per cent of all fraud cases, totalling £571m and the government is now making £900m available to raise additional revenues from those people who undermine the tax system.
