HSBC Data Loss Fine

HSBC has been fined £3m for failures in security when losing personal client data in the post on two occasions.

The Financial Services Authority had investigated and found that on numerous occasions, personal data files with thousands of client records and data had been sent either in the post of via courier with no encryption.

In addition, it said that client paper based files had been left out and not stored in locked cabinets overnight.
