House Prices Up

Published / Last Updated on 17/04/2003

According to the Halifax, house prices are on the increase again, with the largest rise since November 2002.

Halifax claim that the rise for March was 1.9% and had previously predicted those houses in the North of England and Scotland would see rises for the year of 12% to 15%.  London and the South East were expected to fare worse but still in the plus figures of between 2% and 3%.

Chief economist for Halifax, Martin Ellis said: "we expect the difficulties that first-time buyers face in entering the market, particularly in the South of England, to increasingly curb demand and cause house price inflation to moderate gradually during the rest of 2003"

He then went on to say: "conditions across northern Britain are set to remain buoyant".
