Home Information Packs were introduced in six areas of the United Kingdom in November 2006, to see how well they were received ahead of the launch for the whole country in June 2007. The Association of Home Information Pack Providers have said that the general response is that the packs were welcomed by many consumers and that most people are voluntarily requesting the home condition reports when they are selling their properties.
This is astonishing as the Home Information Packs should have been made compulsory last July, but plans were put on hold as influential brokers and lenders were suggesting that the packs were not as useful as they should have been. Figures from the Association of Home Information Pack Providers have indicated that over 700 packs have already been issued since November.
Our view
The Association of Home Information Pack Providers would say they have been a success wouldn’t they? The basic principle of all the legal and environmental and survey work done before you even buy is good, the difficulty will be if your home is on the market for a long time and goes out of date.
