Highest Unemployment Rise for 17 Years

Figures released by the office of National Statistics have confirmed that jobless figure rose by 164,000 in the three months to August to 1.79 million.

This is the highest quarterly rise for 17 years and puts unemployment at 5.2% of the working population.
