Ford Workers Ballot on Strike Action

Ford Workers Ballot on Strike Action.

5,000 Ford workers are to be balloted on strike action with their union Unite. This strike action is regarding upset over changes to job security and pensions.

The anger over job security has come after nearly 1,500 people lost their jobs following Ford’s decision to close some UK facilities in 2012. Pension concerns have continued after Ford announced in 2010 they would link pension increases to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rather than the more accurate Retail Price Index (RPI).

Unite workers are demanding that job security is put in-line with its EU counter-part as well as changes to the pension scheme.

A Ford spokesperson said that negotiations were still underway for the workforce, but there was “nothing further to add regarding these negotiations”.
