Investors relying on their own research or the advice of friends and family are 10% less satisfied with performance than those who consult an independent financial adviser. Research from Brewin Dolphin has found that 53% of people who invested in a unit trust in the past 5 years consulted an independent financial adviser, and 77% of these were satisfied or very satisfied with its performance. Of the 31% of people who relied on the advice of family and friends, and the 37% who relied on their own research, only 67% were satisfied or very satisfied with the performance. The poll also showed that people in the South East are the most unhappy with their unit trust performance, while the happiest investors are in Wales and the South West.
