Landlords in the buy-to-let market will also be hit by the introduction of energy performance certificates. Energy performance certificates are compulsory in the Home Information Packs, but from October next year they will also apply to rented properties.
The energy performance certificates will cost landlords around £200.00. The National Landlords Association is trying to make the general landlord community aware of the new changes and how it may affect them. However, they are concerned that landlords who are not a member of the Association may not be aware of the changes.
Our view
The introduction of the energy performance certification is a good thing as the Government looks for consistency and stability in the housing market. Alas, the requirement for full HIP Home Information Packs that should start in June, may be delayed for a few months, we will find out later this week.
