Endowment Optimism

Published / Last Updated on 13/04/2003

According to Norwich Union, over half of the people they surveyed that had a with profits endowment, believed it would hit the target maturity value.

Following the terrible press coverage of endowment over the last few years, these figures are surprising if people have actual figures to show estimated maturity values.  Only 36% of people believed there would be a shortfall in their particular case.  However, 60% also said that due to their house growing in value they were not concerned with any shortfall there might be.

If you look at your endowment projections and see figures at 4%, 6% and 8% and all of them show at least the amount you need, then you might be okay.  However if 4% shows a shortfall you should take independent advice and review the likely maturity value.
