The new five pound notes will be reissued next month, following a problem with disappearing serial numbers.
The Bank of England suspended issue of the fivers, featuring Elizabeth Fry, after it was discovered that on some notes the serial numbers could be rubbed off.
Ruth Kelly, financial secretary to the Treasury, said that it had cost £250,000 to find and solve the problem.
