Business advisory firm, Vantis, has warned small to medium-sized businesses to prepare themselves for a new type of fraud.
In the first seven months of 2004, Companies House reported 114 cases of attempted corporate identity theft, which involved unauthorised attempts to change registered details, often involving the appointment and resignation of directors, or a change in the companies registered office.
Companies House, holds a database containing details of around two million businesses and has no way of authenticating the validity of signatures because they do not need to be witnessed or sworn.
